Today we took Reading Session 3, heard some more Harry Potter, kept practicing perimeter, area, and measurement conversions, started learning the 16 counties of Maine, and made "Kindness Cootie Catchers!"

Today we took Reading Session 2, listened to more Harry Potter, practiced area/perimeter in math, and talked about the idea of a "Kindness Boomerang." We're starting a Kindness Challenge to create paper hearts from acts of kindness we do....hopefully it'll spread through the school!

Today we took Reading Session 1, did a little writing, had music, did AR reading and/or reading groups, and practiced different forms of measurement in math.

Today we learned about perimeter and area. Then we listened to more Harry Potter, did some more test prep, did reading centers, read a little Hatchet, and did some writer's workshop.

Today we learned about cups, pints, quarts, and gallons in math. Then we listened to Harry Potter and did some writing test preparation. Finally, we read some more in Hatchet and did a little writer's workshop to end the day!

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016

Today we learned Latin word parts in spelling. Then we worked with ounces, pounds, and tons in math. In reading we continued Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets as well as Hatchet.  We also talked about using 'prior knowledge' as a reading strategy. This afternoon we finished up cards for the firefighters/EMT's and did a little writing.

Today we had a visit from the Orono/Glenburn fire department and ambulance service! We got to check out the vehicles, equipment, gear, and learn about what they do! We also the U.S. Customary measurement system in math, did reading centers, and took a virtual trip to Ireland through Miss Porter's pictures.

Today we learned about adverbs and time conversions (math). We also started listening to the 2nd Harry Potter book, wrote compare and contrast paragraphs, and started our new book, Hatchet. This afternoon, we did more writing!

Today we learned about grams, milligram, kilograms, etc. In spelling we learned about Greek word parts in English words, and then we finished up comparing and contrasting the Harry Potter book and movie. This afternoon, we met with reading groups and did a little writing.

Today we learned about kilometers, hectometers, and decameters. We also learned about comparative and superlative adjectives and worked on our Harry Potter games. This afternoon we started comparing and contrasting the movie and the book!

Today we talked about the metric system: millimeters, centimeters, decimeters, and meters. Then we broke up words into syllables using vowels (V/CV or VC/V). We also worked on our writing pieces, met with reading groups, and worked on our Harry Potter games.
